Multiple Myeloma (MM) Samples for Clinical Research
Bay Biosciences supplies pharmaceutical customers with fresh frozen (-80°) serum, plasma, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) biofluid samples. Furthermore, these samples are accompanied by matching FFPE blocks.
Additionally, these samples come from unique patients diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (MM) and, in addition, include detailed clinical annotations for research purposes.
We provide detailed clinical data and pathology annotations, including the corresponding diagnostic test values for Multiple Myeloma patients.
Moreover, we offer this information to our valued pharmaceutical customers for research and drug discovery.
Multiple Myeloma (MM) Overview
Multiple myeloma is a type of cancer that arises when, in particular, an atypical plasma cell develops in the bone marrow and rapidly multiplies. Consequently, this swift reproduction of cancerous myeloma cells eventually overwhelms the production of healthy cells in the bone marrow.
Furthermore, the cancerous myeloma cells generate atypical antibodies known as monoclonal (M) proteins, which can, in turn, lead to kidney damage and other serious health complications.
Although multiple myeloma is rare, the National Cancer Institute estimates that, in fact, the United States will see approximately be 34,920 new cases in 2021, accounting for about 1.8 percent of all new cancer cases.
Types of Multiple Myeloma (MM)
There are two main types of multiple myeloma:
- Indolent myeloma: This type, on the one hand, typically develops slowly and often goes unnoticed due to the absence of significant symptoms. Furthermore, it does not lead to bone tumors; however, it does result in small increases in M protein and M plasma cells.
- Solitary plasmacytoma: This type, in contrast, leads to the formation of a tumor, usually in the bone. While it generally responds well to treatment, it, nonetheless, requires close monitoring to ensure effective management.
Signs of Multiple Myeloma (MM)
Early signs and symptoms can vary and may not appear at all. But if they do occur, they typically include:
Symptoms of Multiple Myeloma (MM)
The symptoms of multiple myeloma can vary from person to person. Initially, individuals may not notice any symptoms. However, as the disease advances, most people will experience at least one of four major types of symptoms.
Furthermore, these symptoms are commonly referred to by the acronym CRAB, which stands for:
- C = calcium (elevated levels)
- R = renal failure
- A = anemia
- B = bone damage
Biospecimens
Bay Biosciences is, indeed a global leader in providing researchers with high quality, clinical grade, fully characterized human tissue samples, bio-specimens, and human bio-fluid collections.
Specifically, aamples available include cancer (tumor) tissue, cancer serum, cancer plasma, cancer, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). and human tissue samples from most other therapeutic areas and diseases.
Moreover, Bay Biosciences maintains and manages its own biorepository, the human tissue bank (biobank) consisting of thousands of diseased samples (specimens) and from normal healthy donors available in all formats and types.
In fact, our biobank procures and stores fully consented, de-identified and institutional review boards (IRB) approved human tissue samples and matched controls.
Additionally, all our human tissue collections, human specimens and human bio-fluids are provided with detailed, samples associated patient’s clinical data.
In particular, critical patient’s clinical data includes information relating to their past and current disease, treatment history, lifestyle choices, biomarkers, and genetic information.
Moreover, patient’s data is extremely valuable for researchers and is used to help identify new effective treatments (drug discovery & development) in oncology, and other therapeutic areas and diseases.
Specifically, Bay Biosciences banks wide variety of human tissue samples and biological samples, including cryogenically preserved at – 80°C.
For example fresh frozen tissue samples, tumor tissue samples, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE), tissue slides, with matching human bio-fluids, whole blood and blood-derived products such as serum, plasma and PBMC.
Furthermore, Bay Biosciences is a global leader in collecting and providing human tissue samples according to the specified requirements and customized, tailor-made collection protocols.
Therefore, please contact us anytime to discuss your special research projects and customized human tissue sample requirements.
