Bay Biosciences provides human kidney stone samples (urinal calculi) also called renal calculi, nephrolithiasis or urolithiasis specimens in phosphate-buffered saline solution (PBS) collected from 25 unique kidney patients between ages 18 years to 70 years old.

Detailed clinical data including donor’s age, sex, race, corresponding smoking and alcohol use information is provided to a valued diagnostic customer for research.

Kidney Stones Overview

Kidney stones also known as renal calculi, nephrolithiasis or urolithiasis are hard deposits made of minerals and salts that form inside the kidneys. Kidney stones often have no definite, single cause, although several factors may increase the risk of developing kidney stones.

Kidney stones form when the urine contains more crystal forming substances, such as calcium, oxalate and uric acid than the fluid in your urine can dilute. At the same time, the urine may lack substances that prevent crystals from sticking together, creating an ideal environment for kidney stones to form inside the kidneys.

Types of Kidney Stones

Following are different types of kidney stones which form in the kidneys:

Calcium stones: Most kidney stones are calcium stones, usually in the form of calcium oxalate. Oxalate is a substance made everyday by the liver or it is absorbed from the daily diet and the food we eat. Certain fruits and vegetables, as well as nuts and chocolate, are high oxalate content. Dietary factors, high doses of vitamin D, intestinal bypass surgery and several metabolic disorders can increase the concentration of calcium or oxalate in urine, which results in forming kidney stones.

Calcium stones may also occur in the form of calcium phosphate. This type of stone is more common in metabolic conditions, such as renal tubular acidosis. It may also be associated with certain medications used to treat migraines or seizures.

Struvite stones: Struvite stones form in response to a urinary tract infection. These stones can grow quickly and become quite large, sometimes with few symptoms or little warning.

Uric acid stones: Uric acid stones can form in people who lose too much fluid because of chronic diarrhea or malabsorption, people who eat a high-protein diet, and those with diabetes or metabolic syndrome. Certain genetic factors also may increase the risk of forming uric acid stones in the kidneys.

Cystine stones: These stones form in people with a hereditary disorder called cystinuria that causes the kidneys to excrete too much of a specific amino acid, which forms the kidney stones.

Signs and Symptoms of Kidney Stones

Following are the common sigs and symptoms of kidney stones:
  • Severe pain that you are unable to sit still or find a comfortable position
  • Pain accompanied by nausea and vomiting
  • Pain accompanied by fever and chills
  • Blood in your urine
  • Infection
  • Difficulty passing urine

Bay Biosciences is a global leader in providing researchers with high quality, clinical grade, fully characterized human tissue samples, bio-specimens and human bio-fluid collections from cancer (tumor) tissue, cancer serum, cancer plasma cancer PBMC and human tissue samples from most other therapeutic areas and diseases.

Bay Biosciences maintains and manages it’s own bio-repository, human tissue bank (biobank) consisting of thousands of diseased samples (specimens) and from normal healthy donors available in all formats and types. Our biobank procures and stores fully consented, deidentified and institutional review boards (IRB) approved human tissue samples and matched controls.

All our human human tissue collections, human specimens and human bio-fluids are provided with detailed samples associated patient’s clinical data. This critical patient’s clinical data includes information relating to their past and current disease, treatment history, lifestyle choices, biomarkers and genetic information. Patient’s data is extremely valuable for researchers and is used to help identify new effective treatments (drug discovery & development) in oncology, other therapeutic areas and diseases. This clinical information is critical to demonstrate their impact, monitor the safety of medicines, testing & diagnostics, and generate new knowledge about the causes of disease and illness.

Bay Biosciences banks wide variety of human tissue samples and biological samples including cryogenically preserved -80°C, fresh, fresh frozen tissue samplestumor tissue samples, FFPE’s, tissue slides, with matching human bio-fluids, whole blood and blood derived products such as serumplasma and PBMC’s.

Bay Biosciences is a global leader in collecting and providing human tissue samples according to the researchers specified requirements and customized, tailor made collection protocols. Please contact us anytime to discuss your special research projects and customized human tissue sample requirements.

Bay Biosciences provides human tissue samples (human specimens) from diseased and normal healthy donors; including peripheral whole-blood, amniotic fluid, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL), sputum, pleural effusion, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), serum (sera), plasma, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC’s), saliva, Buffy coat, urine, stool samples, aqueous humor, vitreous humor, kidney stones, renal calculi, nephrolithiasis, urolithiasis and other bodily fluids from most diseases including cancer. We can also procure most human bio-specimens and can do special collections and requests of human samples that are difficult to find. All our human tissue samples are procured through IRB approved clinical protocols and procedures.

In addition to the standard processing protocols Bay Biosciences can also provide human plasma, serum, PBMC bio-fluid samples using custom processing protocols, you can buy donor specific sample collections in higher volumes and specified sample aliquoting from us. Bay Biosciences also provides human samples from normal healthy donors, volunteers, for controls and clinical research, contact us Now.
