Aplastic Anemia Samples
Bay Biosciences provides high quality, clinical grade, FFPE tissue blocks and matched cryogenically preserved sera (serum), plasma, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) biofluid samples from patients diagnosed with aplastic anemia.
The sera (serum), plasma and PBMC biofluid specimens are processed from aplastic anemia patient’s peripheral whole-blood using customized collection and processing protocols.
The aplastic anemia tissue and matched biofluid samples are collected from unique patients diagnosed with aplastic anemia and are provided to a valued pharmaceutical customer for research, discovery and drug development.
Detailed clinical data, aplastic anemia patient’s history, symptoms, complete blood count (CBC), serology, MRI, biopsy tissue, histopathology information, elevated biomarker levels, genetic and metabolic information associated with aplastic anemia specimens is provided to a valued customer for research, development and drug discovery.
Aplastic Anemia Overview
Aplastic anemia is a rare and a serious but treatable condition that occurs when, consequently, the body stops producing enough new blood cells. As a result, the condition leaves the patient fatigued and, furthermore, more prone to infections and uncontrolled bleeding.
In aplastic anemia, the bone marrow, which is the spongy stuff inside of the bones, stops making new blood cells. Sometimes, it stops making just one type; however, more often, patients become low on all three types of blood cells, i.e., red cells, white cells, and platelets.
What is Aplastic Anemia?
When a person has aplastic anemia, their bone marrow, therefore, does not create the blood cells it needs. Consequently, this causes them to feel ill and increases their risk of getting infections.
Doctors also call aplastic anemia, in addition, bone marrow failure.
Doctors do not know exactly how many people, for instance, in the United States have aplastic anemia.
According to the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), doctors diagnose approximately 500 to 1,000 cases every year. Notably, it is most common in older children, teenagers, and young adults.
Types of Aplastic Anemia
Following are the two different types Aplastic Anemia:
- Acquired Aplastic Anemia: Acquired aplastic anemia is more common in adult patients. Scientists believe something triggers problems in the immune system. This possibly includes, viruses like HIV or Epstein-Barr virus, certain type of medications, toxic chemicals, radiation or chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
- Inherited Aplastic Anemia: Inherited aplastic anemia is caused by gene defects, and is most common in children and young adults. Patients who have this type of an anemia, there is a higher chance of developing leukemia and other cancers.
Causes of Aplastic Anemia
Researchers believe that most cases of aplastic anemia are due to the immune system attacking healthy bone marrow cells, according to NORD.
Doctors have also identified some of the possible causes of this immune system response, including:
- First, exposure to benzene, a chemical used to make plastics, synthetic fibers, dyes, detergents, and pesticides
- Second, insecticide exposure
- Third, nonviral hepatitis
- Moreover, pesticide exposure
- Furthermore, medications, such as chemotherapy drugs or chloramphenicol
- In addition, hepatitis
- Next, pregnancy
- In addition, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus
- Also, cancer
- Finally, other infectious diseases
Biospecimens
Bay Biosciences is a global leader in providing researchers with high quality, clinical grade, fully characterized human tissue samples, bio-specimens, and human bio-fluid collections.
Moreover, human biospecimens are available including tumor tissue, serum, plasma and PBMC Samples from most other therapeutic areas.
Furthermore, Bay Biosciences maintains and manages its own biorepository, the human tissue bank (biobank) consisting of thousands of diseased samples (specimens) and likewise normal healthy donors for controls. Additionally, available in all formats and types.
In fact, our biobank procures and stores fully consented, de-identified and institutional review boards (IRB) approved human tissue samples, human biofluids such as serum samples, plasma samples from various diseases and matched controls.
Also, all our human tissue collections, human biospecimens and human biofluids are provided with detailed, samples associated patient’s clinical data.
In fact, this critical patient’s clinical data includes information relating to their past and current disease, treatment history, lifestyle choices, biomarkers, and genetic information.
Additionally, researchers find the patient’s data associated with the human biospecimens extremely valuable and use it to help identify new effective treatments (drug discovery & development) in oncology, as well as in other therapeutic areas and diseases.
Bay Biosciences banks wide variety of human tissue samples and human biological samples, including fresh frozen human biospecimens cryogenically preserved at – 80°C.
For example fresh frozen tissue samples, tumor tissue samples, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE), tissue slides, with matching human bio-fluids, whole blood and blood-derived products such as human serum, human plasma and human PBMCs.
Bay Biosciences is a global leader in collecting and providing human tissue samples according to the specified requirements and customized, tailor-made collection protocols.
Please contact us anytime to discuss your special research projects and customized human tissue sample requirements.
