Hypertension Patients Samples for Research
Bay Biosciences provides fresh frozen, clinical grade human serum (sera), plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) samples from 100 unique patients diagnosed with hypertension requiring medication.
Moreover, detailed clinical annotations associated with the samples is provided to a valued pharmaceutical customer for clinical research.
Hypertension Overview
High blood pressure is a common condition that affects the body’s arteries. Furthermore, it’s also called hypertension. In particular, if you have high blood pressure, the force of the blood pushing against the artery walls is consistently too high. As a result, the heart has to work harder to pump blood.
Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). In general, hypertension is a blood pressure reading of 130/80 mm Hg or higher. Moreover, the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association divide blood pressure into four general categories.
- First, normal blood pressure is lower than 120/80 mm Hg.
- Next, elevated blood pressure means the top number ranges from 120 to 129 mm Hg and the bottom number is below, not above, 80 mm Hg.
- Then, stage 1 hypertension is characterized by the top number ranging from 130 to 139 mm Hg or the bottom number being between 80 and 89 mm Hg.
- Finally, stage 2 hypertension occurs when the top number is 140 mm Hg or higher or the bottom number is 90 mm Hg or higher.
Blood pressure higher than 180/120 mm Hg indicates a hypertensive emergency or crisis. Therefore, seek emergency medical help for anyone with these blood pressure numbers.
Untreated, high blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other serious health problems. Consequently, it’s important to have your blood pressure checked at least every two years starting at age 18. Additionally, some people need more-frequent checks.
Moreover, healthy lifestyle habits — such as not smoking, exercising, and eating well — can help prevent and treat high blood pressure. However, some people need medicine to treat high blood pressure.
Symptoms
Most people with high blood pressure have no symptoms; in fact, even if blood pressure readings reach dangerously high levels, individuals often remain unaware of their condition. Consequently, you can have high blood pressure for years without any symptoms.
A few people with high blood pressure may, however, experience:
- Headaches
- Shortness of breath
- Nosebleeds
Nevertheless, it is important to note that these symptoms aren’t specific. Typically, they usually don’t occur until high blood pressure has reached a severe or life-threatening stage.
Causes
Blood pressure is determined by two things: the amount of blood the heart pumps and how hard it is for the blood to move through the arteries. Specifically, the more blood the heart pumps and the narrower the arteries, the higher the blood pressure will be.
There are, in fact, two main types of high blood pressure.
Primary Hypertension
For most adults, there is, unfortunately, no identifiable cause of high blood pressure. This type of high blood pressure is called primary hypertension or essential hypertension. Moreover, it tends to develop gradually over many years. In addition, plaque buildup in the arteries, known as atherosclerosis, increases the risk of high blood pressure.”
Secondary Hypertension
This type of high blood pressure results from an underlying condition. Moreover, it tends to appear suddenly and cause higher blood pressure than primary hypertension does. Specifically, conditions and medicines that can lead to secondary hypertension include:
- Adrenal gland tumors
- Blood vessel problems present at birth, also called congenital heart defects
- Cough and cold medicines, some pain relievers, birth control pills, and other prescription drugs
- Illegal drugs, such as cocaine and amphetamines
- Kidney disease
- Obstructive sleep apnea
- Thyroid problems
Furthermore, sometimes just getting a health checkup causes blood pressure to increase. This phenomenon is called white coat hypertension.
Biospecimens
Bay Biosciences is a global leader in providing researchers with high quality, clinical grade, fully characterized human tissue samples, bio-specimens, and human bio-fluid collections.
Human biospecimens are available including cancer (tumor) tissue, cancer serum, cancer plasma, cancer peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). and human tissue samples from most other therapeutic areas and diseases.
Bay Biosciences maintains and manages its own biorepository, the human tissue bank (biobank) consisting of thousands of diseased samples (specimens) and from normal healthy donors for controls, available in all formats and types.
In fact, our biobank procures and stores fully consented, de-identified and institutional review boards (IRB) approved human tissue samples, human biofluids such as serum samples, plasma samples from various diseases and matched controls.
Also, all our human tissue collections, human biospecimens and human biofluids are provided with detailed, samples associated patient’s clinical data.
In fact, this critical patient’s clinical data includes information relating to their past and current disease, treatment history, lifestyle choices, biomarkers, and genetic information.
Additionally, researchers find the patient’s data associated with the human biospecimens extremely valuable and use it to help identify new effective treatments (drug discovery & development) in oncology, as well as in other therapeutic areas and diseases.
Bay Biosciences banks wide variety of human tissue samples and human biological samples, including fresh frozen human biospecimens cryogenically preserved at – 80°C.
For example fresh frozen tissue samples, tumor tissue samples, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE), tissue slides, with matching human bio-fluids, whole blood and blood-derived products such as human serum, human plasma and human PBMCs.
Bay Biosciences is a global leader in collecting and providing human tissue samples according to the specified requirements and customized, tailor-made collection protocols.

Types of Biospecimens
Bay Biosciences provides human tissue samples (human specimens) and human biofluids from diseased and normal healthy donors which includes:
- Peripheral whole-blood
- Amniotic fluid
- Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL)
- Sputum
- Pleural effusion
- Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
- Serum (sera)
- Plasma
- Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC)
- Saliva
- Buffy coat

- Kidney stones (renal calculi)
- Other bodily fluids from most diseases including cancer.
Moreover, we can also procure most human biospecimens and human biofluids, special collections and requests for human samples that are difficult to find. All our human tissue samples and human biofluids are procured through IRB-approved clinical protocols and procedures.
In addition to the standard processing protocols, Bay Biosciences can also provide human biofluids such as human plasma, human serum, and human PBMCs bio-fluid samples using custom processing protocols; you buy donor-specific collections in higher volumes and specified sample aliquots from us.
Bay Biosciences also provides human biospecimens from normal healthy donors; volunteers, for controls and clinical research, Contact us Now.
