Bay Biosciences provides high quality, clinical grade bio-samples, skin biopsy tissue samples, FFPE tissue blocks, sera (serum), plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) biofluid samples from patients diagnosed with Pemphigus Foliaceus (PF).
The PBMC’s sera (serum) and plasma biofluid samples are processed from patient’s peripheral whole-blood using customized processing protocols. The Pemphigus Foliaceus (PF) human bio-specimens are collected from unique patients diagnosed with Pemphigus Foliaceus (PF) disease and provided to a valued pharmaceutical customer for research, development and drug discovery.
Pemphigus Foliaceus
Pemphigus Foliaceus (PF) is a rare, potentially life-threatening, autoimmune blistering disease (bullous disorder) of the skin. Pemphigus Foliaceus causes a characteristic inflammatory attack at the sub-corneal layer of epidermis, which results in skin lesions that are scaly or crusted erosions with an erythematous (red) base. Pemphigus Foliaceus (PF) is characterized by blistering lesions on otherwise healthy-looking skin. Blisters tend to form when the skin is rubbed (Nikolsky’s sign). Pemphigus Foliaceus is sometimes provoked by sun exposure. Pemphigus Foliaceus affects people of all races, age and sex. It affects patients most commonly between the ages of 50-60 years.
Pemphigus Foliaceus is an autoimmune disorder, which means that an individual’s immune systems starts reacting against his or her own body. Immune system produces antibodies that attack viruses and harmful bacteria to keep us healthy. In patients suffering from Pemphigus Foliaceus (PF) the immune system mistakenly attacks the cells in the epidermis which is the top layer of the skin and the mucous membranes. The immune system produces antibodies against proteins in the skin known as desmogleins. These proteins form the glue that keeps skin cells attached and the skin intact. When desmogleins are attacked, skin cells separate from each other and fluid collects between the layers of the skin, forming blisters that do not heal. The building block cells of the epidermis are called keratinocytes. These cells are cemented together at special sticky spots known as desmosomes. In Pemphigus Foliaceus, autoantibodies bind to a protein called Desmoglein-1, which is found in desmosomes in the keratinocytes near the top of the epidermis. The result is the surface keratinocytes separate from each other, and are replaced by fluid which forms the blister. Because the blisters are very close to the surface of the skin, the blisters rupture easily. In some cases these blisters can cover large area of the skin. In most cases, the autoantibodies are immunoglobulin type G (IgG) but in IgA Pemphigus, the auto-antibodies are type A (IgA).
Types of Pemphigus Foliaceus
- Pemphigus Erythematosus
- Pemphigus Herpetiformis
- Endemic Pemphigus Foliaceus
- IgA Pemphigus Foliaceus
- Paraneoplastic Pemphigus Foliaceus
- Drug-Induced Pemphigus Foliaceus
Diagnosis generally requires a skin biopsy, which shows typical features of rounded-up separated keratinocytes (called acantholytic cells) within the blisters in the upper layers of the epidermis. Pemphigus Foliaceus (PF) is confirmed by direct immunofluorescence staining of the skin sections to reveal antibodies. In some cases, circulating antibodies can be detected by a indirect immunofluorescence blood test.
Detailed clinical data, elevated levels of antibodies, serology, biomarkers, CD-20, Type VII collagen, genetic info, skin biopsy tissue, Direct Immunofluorescence staining, pathology annotations, associated with the Pemphigus Foliaceus (PF) patient’s specimens is provided to a valued customer for drug discovery, development and research. The Epidermolysis Pemphigus Foliaceus (PF) disease PBMC, sera (serum) and plasma biofluid samples were processed from patients peripheral blood using customized processing protocols provided by the researcher.
Bay Biosciences is a global leader in providing researchers with high quality, clinical grade, fully characterized human tissue samples, bio-specimens and human bio-fluid collections from cancer (tumor) tissue, cancer sera (serum), cancer plasma, cancer PBMC and human tissue samples from most other therapeutic areas and diseases.
Bay Biosciences maintains and manages it’s own bio-repository, human tissue bank (biobank) consisting of thousands of diseased samples (specimens) and from normal healthy donors available in all formats and types. Our biobank procures and stores fully consented, deidentified and institutional review boards (IRB) approved human tissue samples and matched controls.
All our human human tissue collections, human specimens and human bio-fluids are provided with detailed samples associated patient’s clinical data. This critical patient’s clinical data includes information relating to their past and current disease, treatment history, lifestyle choices, biomarkers and genetic information. Patient’s data is extremely valuable for researchers and is used to help identify new effective treatments (drug discovery & development) in oncology, other therapeutic areas and diseases. This clinical information is critical to demonstrate their impact, monitor the safety of medicines, testing & diagnostics, and generate new knowledge about the causes of disease and illness.
Bay Biosciences banks wide variety of human tissue samples and biological samples including cryogenically preserved -80°C, fresh, fresh frozen tissue samples, tumor tissue samples, FFPE’s, tissue slides, with matching human bio-fluids, whole blood and blood derived products such as serum, plasma and PBMC’s.
Bay Biosciences is a global leader in collecting and providing human tissue samples according to the researchers specified requirements and customized, tailor made collection protocols. Please contact us anytime to discuss your special research projects and customized human tissue sample requirements.
Bay Biosciences provides human tissue samples (human specimens) from diseased and normal healthy donors; including peripheral whole-blood, amniotic fluid, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL), sputum, pleural effusion, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), serum (sera), plasma, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC’s), saliva, Buffy coat, urine, stool samples, aqueous humor, vitreous humor, kidney stones, renal calculi, nephrolithiasis, urolithiasis and other bodily fluids from most diseases including cancer. We can also procure most human bio-specimens and can do special collections and requests of human samples that are difficult to find.
