Anaphylactic Shock Samples
Bay Biosciences provides high quality, clinical grade fresh frozen sera (serum), plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) biofluid samples from patients with anaphylactic shock-allergic reaction.
Moreover, detailed clinical data, and patients information associated with the anaphylactic shock-allergic reaction serum samples is provided to a valued customer for research.
Anaphylaxis Shock Overview
Anaphylaxis is a rare but severe allergic reaction that can be deadly if it is not treated right away. Additionally, it’s most often caused by an allergy to food, venom, or certain medication. Specifically, anaphylaxis causes a series of symptoms, including a rash, low pulse, and shock, which is known as anaphylactic shock.
Furthermore, anaphylaxis causes the immune system to release a flood of chemicals that can cause the body to go into shock. As a result, the blood pressure drops suddenly and the airways narrow, blocking breathing. In particular, signs and symptoms include a rapid, weak pulse, a skin rash, nausea and vomiting. Moreover, common triggers include certain foods, some medications, insect venom, and latex.
Anaphylaxis Signs and Symptoms
Anaphylaxis symptoms usually occur within minutes of exposure to an allergen. Sometimes it can occur a half-hour or longer after exposure.
Anaphylaxis signs and symptoms include:
- Firstly, skin reactions, including hives and itching and flushed or pale skin
- Secondly, low blood pressure (hypotension)
- Thirdly, shortness of breath
- Moreover, coughing, wheezing and pain, itching or tightness in the chest
- Furthermore, constriction of the airways and a swollen tongue or throat, which can cause wheezing and trouble breathing
- In addition, runny or stuffy nose and sneezing
- Likewise, a weak and rapid pulse
- Finally, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
- Lastly, dizziness or fainting, confusion and weakness
Severe Signs
If you notice symptoms, get medical help right away or, alternatively, use your allergy medication. Without treatment, however, more severe, life-threatening anaphylaxis symptoms may occur. For example, you may experience:
- Light-headedness or confusion due to a drop in blood pressure,
- Additionally, an increased heart rate,
- Furthermore, sudden weakness,
- Moreover, unconsciousness,
- Lastly, cardiac arrest.
Causes of Anaphylaxis
The immune system produces antibodies that defend against foreign substances. This is good when a foreign substance is harmful, such as certain bacteria or viruses. But some people’s immune system overreact to substances that normally don’t cause an allergic reaction. Allergy symptoms are usually not life-threatening but a severe allergic reaction can lead to anaphylaxis.
Moreover, food allergies are, in fact, one of the main causes of anaphylaxis. Specifically, foods that can cause this severe anaphylactic reaction include:
- Cow’s milk.
- Eggs.
- Peanuts.
- Shellfish (such as shrimp and lobster).
- Soy.
- Tree nuts (like walnuts, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews).
- Wheat.
- Seeds (including sesame seeds and sunflower seeds).
Moreover, other allergens (substances that cause allergies) that can lead to anaphylaxis include:
- Certain medications and substances, such as penicillin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and dye used for CT scans.
- Latex, which is found in items like disposable gloves, catheters, and adhesive tapes.
- Additionally, insect stings from bees, wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets.
Stages of Anaphylaxis
Anaphylaxis tends to happen suddenly and quickly. Moreover, there often isn’t a warning period; however, there can be mild signs like hives or flushed skin. Furthermore, some healthcare providers break the stages of anaphylaxis into four categories:
- First, stage one: Mild anaphylaxis is the first stage and can cause symptoms like skin rash or redness, itching, or hives.
- Next, stage two: Moderate anaphylaxis happens when a person has more widespread and extensive symptoms, such as skin rash and hives that are spreading or mild swelling in their lips or tongue.
- Following that, stage three: Severe anaphylaxis happens next and involves a person displaying signs of difficulty breathing, extensive swelling, weak pulse, or dizziness. In fact, a person in stage three anaphylaxis is experiencing a condition called anaphylactic shock.
- Lastly, stage four: Life-threatening anaphylaxis is the last stage and involves a person losing consciousness, being unable to breathe, and having inadequate blood flow to vital organs. Consequently, a person in this stage needs immediate medical attention to avoid death.
Biospecimens
Bay Biosciences is a global leader in providing researchers with high quality, clinical grade, fully characterized human tissue samples, bio-specimens, and human bio-fluid collections.
Moreover, human biospecimens are available including tumor tissue, serum, plasma and PBMC samples from most other therapeutic areas.
Furthermore, Bay Biosciences maintains and manages its own biorepository, the human tissue bank (biobank) consisting of thousands of diseased samples (specimens) and likewise normal healthy donors for controls. Additionally, available in all formats and types.
In fact, our biobank procures and stores fully consented, de-identified and institutional review boards (IRB) approved human tissue samples, human biofluids such as serum samples, plasma samples from various diseases and matched controls.
Also, all our human tissue collections, human biospecimens and human biofluids are provided with detailed, samples associated patient’s clinical data.
In fact, this critical patient’s clinical data includes information relating to their past and current disease, treatment history, lifestyle choices, biomarkers, and genetic information.
Additionally, researchers find the patient’s data associated with the human biospecimens extremely valuable and use it to help identify new effective treatments (drug discovery & development) in oncology, as well as in other therapeutic areas and diseases.
Bay Biosciences banks wide variety of human tissue samples and human biological samples, including fresh frozen human biospecimens cryogenically preserved at – 80°C.
For example fresh frozen tissue samples, tumor tissue samples, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE), tissue slides, with matching human bio-fluids, whole blood and blood-derived products such as human serum, human plasma and human PBMCs.
Bay Biosciences is a global leader in collecting and providing human tissue samples according to the specified requirements and customized, tailor-made collection protocols.
